Greenock Telegraph Garden Guru: Watch out for the little nibblers
AS we enter this season of the year, one of the common pests are the earwigs which tend to attack flowers such as dahlias and chrysanthemums.
But other species of flowers can also come under att ack from these tiny mites, and they can be easily treated and got rid of while you sleep comfortably in your bed.
All you have to do is to place a tall cane around the flowers that will come under attack and place an upturned flower pot on top of the cane or maybe a couple of canes if you have a sizable bed of flowers.
Stuff the insides of the upturned flower pots with either straw or crumpled up paper and place them on top of the canes.
The following morning just empty the straw or paper from the pot and dispose safely. Refill the pots in the evening.
Keep doing this and your flowers will suffer little or no damage. Keep doing this during the coming weeks until you see no damage is taking place.
